My INDS Degree

My INDS degree plan draws from creative writing, and visual arts such as animation, drawing and sculptures. With my degree, I want to create comic books professionally. Scott McCloud– a cartoonist, and comics theorist talks about understanding comics, Writes in his book “Understanding Comics: “The power of comics lies in their simplicity. They can communicate complex ideas through simple images and words.” For me, this involves writing the story, including storyboarding and designing characters.

Courses In My INDS Degree

Develop Writing Skills: These areas of concentration will help me be able to develop my skills as a writer. These classes have exercises and tips to help me be successful in the field and to make me stand out in the career of a comic book designer. (ENGL 210, 240, 271, 371,471)

Develop Art Skills: With this area of concentration, I will be able to create storyboards, concepts- and other projects that will be able to help me develop different stories in different media such as storyboarding for game design, film, and in writing. (ART 210, 214, 314)

Study different types of stories and how they are conveyed in different types of media: With this area of concentration, I will be able to understand the frameworks of storytelling- things like the types of stories like the hero’s journey, why we tell stories and why some stories are more effective than others. (ENGL 241, 332, AMST 356, MCS 370, FLM 240)

Individualized Study: INDS classes will help me process information with classes like INDS 330 and be able to prepare a major that is career-ready.
